The 6241 standby generator with service-entrance-rated, 200-amp automatic transfer switch supplies your home with up to 14,000 watts of electricity during a power outage. Featuring fully automatic operation and managed whole-house power, the generator and transfer switch start and run automatically during a power outage to provide your home and family with 24/7 protection. Generac's 6241 standby system includes a 5-year limited consumer warranty.
Residential Standby Generators from Generac run on either LP gas (propane) or natural gas and are factory set for connection to a home's natural gas supply. Conversion to LP gas during installation is fast and simple. The 6241 supplies up to 14kW on either LP or NG. Half-load fuel consumption runs about 1.9 gallons of propane per hour, or 177 cubic feet of natural gas per hour. Required fuel pressure to generator fuel inlet at all load ranges 3.5" - 7" water column for natural gas or 10" - 12" water column for LP gas.
Designed by Generac specifically to power their standby generators, the 992cc overhead valve industrial engine powers the generating unit at a constant 3600 RPM and provides exceptional reliability, sure starts, and a long life. A fully pressurized oil system keeps the engine lubricated while it is running and a 200 hour/2 year interval between oil changes allow for use during extended outages. Low oil and high temperature sensing allow the controller to shut the engine down to prevent damage. Plasma Moly rings and plateau honed cylinder walls reduce oil consumption and extend engine life.
The Generac Evolution Controller is a digital controller that handles all aspects of the 6241 standby system. When utility power is interrupted, the controller senses the outage and starts the generator, then signals the Smart Switch ATS to move the house onto standby emergency power. When utility power is restored, the controller instructs the transfer switch to return the house to utility power and shuts the generator down after a one minute, no-load cool-down period.
Features of the Evolution include a dealer programmable start delay of 2 to 1500 seconds (factory set at 10 seconds) to prevent starts during momentary outages. A weekly exercise cycle, programmable by the homeowner, starts and runs the generator to keep it lubricated and ready to run during an outage. Other features include status display, fault reports, smart battery charging, and programmable maintenance alerts.
The controller keeps engine speed constant and regulates the voltage to supply utility-quality power suitable for use by electronics, even when the generator is supply heavy motor loads such as air conditioners.
Add the Mobile Link option and receive text-message status updates on your cell phone. Access the online dashboard from your smart phone, tablet, or computer browser and schedule maintenance, view alerts, program exercise periods, and handle other generator functions from anywhere you have an internet connection.
An optional wireless monitor lets you view generator status from inside your home, or select the advanced model and access the controller indoors to test the generator, view status messages, or access user programmable features.
The 200 amp, service-entrance-rated Smart Switch is an automatic transfer switch that can manage up to two central air conditioning units without additional hardware. The switch typically installs between the electric utility meter and the main service panel which allows the Smart Switch to select between utility power for normal operation or standby generator power for emergency operation.
The addition of an optional Power Management Starter Kit and Power Management Modules (PMM) allows the switch to control up to four additional high-demand loads such as well pumps, electric dryers, and electric water heaters using load shedding technology.
Generac's standby generators use a revolving magnetic field - a brushless design that prolongs generator life and increases generator efficiency. Skewed stators reduce electrical noise for cleaner, smoother power under heavy loads. The efficient design helps maximize motor starting capability to start air conditioners and other large motors.
With an eye-pleasing design and low noise levels, Generac standby generators fit into any neighborhood setting. The 14kW generator produces about 66db of noise, on par with most central air units. Built to withstand environmental conditions, the powder coated, steel enclosure includes a locking lid for access to the generator and prevent tampering. It measures 48 inches wide, 25 inches deep, and 29 inches high and sits on a gravel bed or concrete slab.
