Westinghouse Generators

Born in 1846, George Westinghouse patented the rotary steam engine at the age of 19. Four years later in 1869, he invented the air brake and revolutionized railway safety with brake systems from his Westinghouse Air Brake Company.

Westinghouse went on to found the Westinghouse Electric Company in 1886. Two years later, Nicola Tesla received his patent on the Alternating Current electric motor and joined the Westinghouse Electric. Tesla would later license his AC Motor patent to Westinghouse.

By 1890, Westinghouse built the world’s first commercial system to produce and transmit alternating current at the Ames Hydroelectric Generating Plant in Colorado with two large Westinghouse Generators. The plant still operates but has been changed and upgraded over the years. In 1896, Westinghouse Generators installed at Niagara Falls began producing AC electric Power for Buffalo, New York.

Westinghouse Portable Generators

More innovation followed with Commercial Steam Driven Generators, AC Powered Locomotives, the entry into the appliance market with electric stoves, the first radio station and the first factory-built radio receiver. It was Westinghouse cameras that captured the first moonwalk.

Today, Westinghouse continues to innovate with products ranging from nuclear power to small and large appliances and electric motors for commercial and industrial operations.

The first line of Westinghouse Portable Generators reached the market in 2011. They released a second line of Westinghouse Digital Inverter Generators and Open Frame Generators with WiFi control from mobile devices, remote start options, and dual-fuel generators that run on gasoline and propane.
