Briggs and Stratton 26kW Standby Generator Installed in a Home's Backyard

New 24kW and 26kW Generators from Generac and 26kW Briggs and Stratton Generators put out over 30 percent more power than the 20-kilowatt models that topped the market just a few years ago. Larger homes and small businesses have the backup power they need with a more affordable price tag compared to liquid-cooled models with a similar capacity. The air-cooled generators take up half the space of larger and more complex liquid cooled generators and install with as little as 18 inches between the home and generator—subject to local building codes.

The generators cool themselves with air blown over the alternator and engine by a fan. This method is less complex than a liquid-cooled generator that uses a cooling system similar to a car with coolant pumped through the engine and radiator.

Briggs and Stratton put their headquarters in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Generac placed their headquarters in Waukesha, just outside of Milwaukee. Both companies build their generators in the United States with USA made parts and some foreign-built parts.

*Standby Generator Installation Requires an Automatic Transfer Switch. Models sold without a transfer switch require a compatible Automatic Transfer Switch Installation.

Generac 24kW Standby Generator

A Larger Home with a Generac 24kW Generator

The Generac 24kW Generator is an air-cooled generator in the company’s best-selling Guardian Series Home Standby Generator Line. Following the introduction of the 22 Kilowatt, the 24kW generator became the largest and most powerful generator in the air-cooled class.

Generac’s 24 kW Guardian produces up to 24kW while running on LP Propane and 21kW on Natural Gas.

In Quiet Test exercise mode, the 24kW makes just 57 dBA noise. Normal operation noise levels are about 67 dBA.

The Generac 24kW has applications in the home standby and commercial backup generator markets. A smaller footprint than liquid-cooled models makes it ideal for small yards or tight spaces at commercial locations.

Available as the generator only or with a 200-Amp Automatic Transfer Switch.

The 200-Amp service rated ATS controls up to four air conditioners without additional hardware. Optional Smart Management Modules add up to 8 managed 240-volt appliances, including electric water heaters, pumps, ranges, and more. The transfer switch has NEMA 3R enclosure for indoor or outdoor installation.

In August 2021, the Briggs and Stratton 26kW Generator announcement brought the next step up in air-cooled standby power. The newest, most powerful generator on the market leads the Briggs & Stratton PowerProtect Standby Generator Line.

Briggs and Stratton’s 26kW Generator produces up to 26kW running on LP Propane and 24kW on Natural Gas.

Under a normal operating load, the generator makes just 65 dBA noise. Low idle mode makes less at 65 dBA.

Briggs and Stratton specifies the generator as a home standby or commercial standby generator product. It’s smaller and lighter than competing air-cooled models and fits tight locations and small yards with ease.

The 26kW Briggs and Stratton generator comes as a stand-alone model, with a 200-Amp service rated automatic transfer switch, or with dual 200-Amp Split 400-Amp Automatic Transfer Switches.

Amplify Power Management is an option by adding low-voltage and 240-volt power management modules and the Amplify Gateway (included with generator bundle). Amplify allows up to 32 prioritized loads. A smartphone app allows priority changes as needed. The Amplify Gateway also includes InfoHub for Briggs and Stratton remote monitoring.

Generac 26kW Generator for Home and Commercial Applications

The latest model in the Generac Guardian Line, the Generac 26kW generator takes power to a new level. With the new 26kW Guardian Series leader, Generac retired their 20-kilowatt model. Homeowners and businesses still have three choices of 22, 24, and 26kW generators.

Generac’s 26kW produces 26kW running on LP Propane and 22.5kW while operating on Natural Gas. The generator makes 58 dBA noise in Quiet Test mode and 68 dBA under full load.

26kW Generators from Generac have home standby and commercial standby applications in backup power during outages. It takes up the same small footprint as other Generac Guardian models and can install just 18 inches from the building, subject to local codes. Perfect for tight lot lines, small commercial spaces, and backyards.

One model comes as a bundle with the automatic transfer switch, the other does not include a transfer switch. The transfer switch has a built-in Air Conditioner Control Module for power management. Add up to 8 other prioritized 240-volt appliances with smart management modules.
